Dirty Thirty

I love reading new blogs. I stumbled across After I Do and saw this Glamor article posted. So, I had to repost and answer the questions myself.

Please note, I will be 30 in two months. I refuse to accept this fact, so come December, I will lock myself in the house and cry til my 40th birthday, m'kay?! Thanks.

30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She's 30

By 30, you should have:

1.One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.

Ummm they are exes for a reason. I don't want to go back at all. BUT they have reminded me how far I've come, thank God for that!

2.A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.

I love my kitchen/dining table. It's formal, yet casual and sitting at it makes me feel like a grown-up.

3.Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.

Man of my dreams has seen me at my finest and my worst. I don't think he has a preference, right honey?! LOL. Employer of my dreams, well, I have the perfect outfit!

4.A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.

Check, check, and check! (My umbrella has ducks on it, but I wear it proud!)

5.A youth you’re content to move beyond.

I am having a hard time with this one. I'm content moving on, yes. However, I love still acting like a kid, whether it's jumping in puddles, eating so much ice cream I make myself sick, or rolling down a hill laughing hysterically. I plan to keep these youthful tendencies until I break a hip.

6.A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.

I suck, I don't think it's story worthy, but hey, someone might enjoy it lol.

7.The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.

I'm going to get old. I realize that. Do I accept it? Nope. I have found some grey hairs and cried for an hour. The hubby calls them silver. Either way, they make me start to feel old. I am just now starting to grab ahold of my fiances. I have some catching up to do.

8.An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.

Email and voicemail check. Part of my being an adult is sharing a bank account. I can't spend all the money in it. I have to realize it's not all mine. :( Responsibilities suck!

9.A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.

This I do have.

10.One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.

My life wouldn't function withouth them.

11.A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.

I think hubby has those in the garage, but don't ask me where lol.

12.Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.

Nada. I'm a cheap bastard.

13.The belief that you deserve it.

I do deserve it, just don't have the cash to do so. I'm failing at this grown-up thing, aren't I?

14.A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.

Something I can feel good about finally! YES! I have these and stick with them faithfully sometimes.

15.A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better.

I'm working on it.

By 30, you should know:

1.How to fall in love without losing yourself.

Absofreakinlutely. My husband has never once told me to change. I don't think he ever will.

2.How you feel about having kids.

My views on this have not changed.

3.How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.

Done, done, and done.

4.When to try harder and when to walk away.

Or, as I like to say, when to s*&^ or get off the pot. ;)

5.How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.

A kiss speaks a thousand words!

6.The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.

Hilary Clinton, Victoria or Rose, and Deale cleaners. I pride myself on never forgetting number 2.

7.How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.

I have had experience with this when the hubby deploys. It has made me stronger and more indepenedent. Is it something I want to do? No. But it's a necessity and the only way to learn how to survive is to try. Sometimes I make mistakes, such as blowing up the microwave, but other times I can throw a dinner party and be the talk of the town. I'm learning slowly and surely.

8.How to take control of your own birthday.

I'm a master!

9.That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.

I am reminded of this each day.

10.That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.

Parts of it are. As mentioned above, I like to hold on to some things. I do realize now that when I have a problem, I can't call mom to bail me out. I have to learn how to do it myself.

11.What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.

For love, I'd give the ultimate sacrifice. For money, I'm not so sure.

12.That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.

A to the men on that!

13.Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.

This article apparently has been spying on my life the past year or so.

14.Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.

I'm learning this and I am so happy I finally am!

15.Why they say life begins at 30.

I couldn't be happier!
